The Samurai’s Forge: Preparing a Personal Legend for Its Next Journey

At The Samurai’s Forge, every project is personal—but this one hits especially close to home. We’ve been working on one of my personal bikes, a sleek black 1989 Honda NSR250R MC18 PGM-II, preparing it for its next chapter. While parting with such an iconic machine is never easy, it’s time for this two-stroke warrior to find a new home.

What’s Happening with the NSR250R

Here’s the plan to get this legendary bike in top condition:

  1. Bodywork Refresh:

    • The fuel tank and body panels have been sent off to the painter for a professional tidy-up. The goal is to bring the black livery back to life, ensuring it looks as sharp as the day it rolled out of the factory.
  2. Carburetor Rebuild:

    • Using Keyster carb kits, the carbs will be rebuilt to restore smooth fuel delivery, ensuring the engine performs at its peak.
  3. New Clutch Cable:

    • A fresh clutch cable will replace the old one, providing effortless control for its next rider.
  4. Air Filter Replacement:

    • A genuine Honda air filter is being installed, helping the bike breathe easier and perform better.
  5. Bracket and Bolt Replacement:

    • Missing brackets sourced from Japan will be installed, and fresh factory bolts will replace the old ones in the fairing for a clean and polished look.
  6. Fork Overhaul:

    • The fork stanchions are being replaced, along with new seals and oil, to ensure the bike handles like a dream.

Why This Bike Matters

The 1989 NSR250R MC18 PGM-II is a true icon of the two-stroke era. With its lightweight frame, V-twin engine, and Honda’s advanced PGM-II ignition system, it was built for performance and agility. This restoration ensures it’s ready to deliver the same thrills to its next owner.

What’s Next?

Once these updates are complete, the NSR250R will be ready for sale. This bike has been part of my collection, and while letting it go is bittersweet, it’s exciting to imagine it carving corners with a new rider.
